How many UK job adverts state a salary?

Pay transparency in UK adverts is not one number. It depends almost entirely on where the advert was published.

Last updated 11 Sept 2026. First published 11 Sept 2026. Every figure on this page is computed from the Applyfit database and recomputed daily.

In short

69.5% of the 25,250 open adverts on this site state pay.

That single figure hides the whole finding. Across sources carrying at least twenty adverts, the share runs from 0% on Lever boards to 82% on NHS Jobs. Where an advert is published predicts whether it names a salary better than anything about the job.

Where the advert was published

The share of open adverts stating pay, by source. The count each share is drawn from is in the table beneath the chart.

The aggregator feeds ask for a salary field and most employers fill it in. Applicant tracking boards — the software an employer runs its own careers page on — generally do not require one, and several carry no salary on any advert at all.

Hourly, daily and annual

A stated salary is not always an annual one, and the difference matters: an hourly rate cannot be compared with a going rate or an earnings percentile without a number of hours the advert does not give.

What happens when an advert states nothing

This site fills the gap with an estimate rather than leaving it blank, and labels it as one everywhere it appears. An estimate is built from the published earnings distribution for the occupation and the region, adjusted for the seniority the job title indicates. It is never presented as the employer’s figure and is never used to say a job would meet a salary threshold.

How the estimate is calculated, and the cases where no estimate is offered at all, are set out on the methodology page.

How these figures were produced

Every open, non-duplicate advert on the site. An advert “states pay” when the advert itself gives a figure — from the feed’s own salary field, from the advert text, or from an NHS Agenda for Change band named in the advert. An estimate derived from published earnings data is not a stated salary and is not counted as one here.

Of the 17,541 adverts stating pay, 12,349 carried it in the feed, 5,073 had it read out of the advert text and 119 name an NHS band. A further 3,672 adverts carry an estimate rather than a stated figure and are counted as not stating pay throughout this article.

Sector is the advertising employer’s principal registered activity at Companies House, so the sector table covers only adverts matched to an organisation on the sponsor register with a SIC code recorded. Sources and sectors with fewer than twenty open adverts are left out; a share over nineteen adverts is noise.

The full list of sources, the refresh cadence and what “estimated” means are on the methodology page.
