Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Market Harborough, Leicestershire Salary: £60,000 + EMI Share Options Working Pattern: On-site
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing and innovative defence technology business based in Market Harborough.
Joining a highly technical engineering environment, you will play a key role in the mechanical design and development of an advanced counter-UAS system , taking genuine ownership of projects from initial concept through to working hardware.
This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining mechanical design and CAD with practical, hands-on engineering . You'll be involved throughout the complete development lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping, fabrication, assembly, testing and continuous product improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and development activities for advanced electromechanical systems.
Design airframes, structures, mechanisms and actuation systems.
Support sensor head and subsystem integration.
Produce detailed CAD designs and develop concepts into prototypes and production-ready solutions.
Design and build test rigs and specialist engineering equipment.
Undertake hands-on fabrication, assembly, testing and fault finding.
Work across mechanical, electrical and electronic interfaces.
Support rapid prototyping, development and iteration of new products.
Work closely with the wider engineering team to solve complex technical challenges.
About You
We are looking for a practical and technically capable engineer who enjoys seeing their designs move from the screen into the workshop and ultimately into functioning hardware.
You will ideally have:
Strong mechanical design engineering experience.
Excellent CAD skills.
Proven experience taking designs from initial concept through to physical hardware.
A strong understanding of mechanical structures, mechanisms and actuation.
Hands-on prototyping, fabrication and workshop experience.
An understanding of electrical and electronic systems, including schematics, actuators, power and wiring.
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical engineering mindset.
The ability to thrive within a fast-moving, early-stage engineering environment.
