Senior IT Engineer
Location: London/Surrey - client-facing with travel to customer sites Salary: £45,000-£50,000 Environment: Managed IT Services/MSP
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior IT Engineer to join a growing Managed IT Services provider supporting a range of SME clients across London and Surrey.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining escalated technical support, project delivery, migrations and direct client management.
You'll take ownership of technical issues and projects while proactively identifying ways technology can improve clients' businesses.
This isn't purely a service desk role. You'll be expected to build strong relationships with clients, visit customer sites and confidently explain technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Provide senior-level technical support and manage escalated tickets through to resolution. Support and administer Microsoft 365 and Modern Workplace environments. Deliver Microsoft 365, cloud and infrastructure migrations. Lead and contribute to client IT projects from planning through to implementation. Troubleshoot Windows desktop and server environments. Diagnose networking issues across TCP/IP, private IP addressing, DNS, DHCP and VPNs. Support and configure firewalls, networking equipment and connectivity. Work directly with clients, taking ownership of technical requirements and providing recommendations. Identify opportunities to improve clients' infrastructure, security and ways of working. Maintain clear documentation and follow structured IT service management processes. Keep up to date with emerging technologies, including AI and how these can be practically applied within client environments.
What We're Looking For
Around 3-10 years' commercial IT experience, ideally within an MSP or outsourced IT environment. Strong Microsoft 365 and Modern Workplace knowledge. Strong Windows support and administration experience. Good networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, private IP addressing, DNS, DHCP and VPNs. Experience delivering migrations and IT projects rather than purely BAU support. Confident handling escalated tickets and troubleshooting complex technical issues. Understanding of ITIL and good service management practices. Exposure to virtualisation and firewall management would be beneficial. An interest in and understanding of AI technologies would be advantageous. Excellent communication and customer-facing skills. Comfortable visiting clients and discussing their technology requirements directly. Able to explain technical problems and solutions in straightforward commercial terms.
