Job Title: Hairdressing Lecturer - HMP
Location: Sutton / Surrey
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum (Subject to experience)
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

Are you a creative, experienced hairdressing professional or tutor looking to use your practical skills to change lives? Do you want to play a key role in reducing reoffending by equipping female learners with industry-recognised skills, confidence, and qualifications that lead directly to employment upon release?
MK College Group has an exciting opportunity for a Hairdressing Lecturer to join the dedicated prison-based Education Team at HMP Downview. In this deeply rewarding role, you will deliver engaging, hands-on hairdressing classes within a secure environment, guiding learners through their qualifications and helping them build self-esteem and independence.
What You Will Be Doing
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging hairdressing lessons that support learners to gain formal qualifications and workplace-ready skills.
Student Progression: Guide learners through their individual learning journeys, fostering a positive, supportive, and structured classroom atmosphere.
Skill Building for Rehabilitation: Teach practical styling, cutting, and salon techniques while embedding confidence, professional conduct, and employability skills for post-release goals.
What We Are Looking For
Professional Expertise: Substantial vocational experience as a qualified hair stylist, hairdresser, or salon practitioner.
Teaching & Training: Experience delivering hairdressing training or lecturing is preferred; a recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one) is highly desirable.
Key Skills: Strong group facilitation, adaptive teaching methods, and excellent communication skills to work effectively with diverse adult learners in custody.
