An opportunity has arisen for a Software Developer / Software Engineer to join an innovative technology organisation delivering complex software solutions for customers across a specialist technical environment.
As a Software Developer / Software Engineer , you will design, develop and maintain high-performance backend solutions using C++ and Java in Linux environments, working with customers and internal teams to deliver reliable, scalable software.
This role offers up to £78,000, with a relocation package considered for the right candidate, plus benefits. Please only apply if you have right to work in the UK and valid SC security clearance which must be held at the time of application.
You will be responsible for:
Designing, developing and maintaining backend applications using C++ and Java within Linux environments. Leading the technical development of software components, services and APIs. Producing reliable, scalable and maintainable code with a strong focus on performance and security. Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior and mid-level developers. Contributing to software architecture, technical decisions and development roadmaps. Reviewing code and promoting consistent engineering standards and development practices. Diagnosing and resolving complex software issues, including problems involving third-party dependencies and customer libraries. Building and supporting RESTful APIs, microservices and distributed applications. Using static analysis, profiling and debugging tools to improve software quality and performance. Containerising applications with Docker to support deployment and scalability. Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes.

What we are looking for:
Essential:
Previously worked as a Software Developer or in a similar role. Valid SC security clearance at the time of application. Approx. 5 years of commercial software development experience using or C++ with some Java, ideally within Linux-based environments. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Experience investigating, diagnosing and improving software performance within Linux environments. Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and object-oriented programming. Background in developing enterprise-level backend applications, APIs and distributed systems. Understanding of multithreading and concurrent application development. Knowledge of software debugging and diagnostic techniques. Experience working with Agile development environment & relational and/or NoSQL databases.
