Lead Software Engineer
Location: Manchester City Centre (Hybrid) Salary: £55k - £65k + Benefits
The Role
We're partnering with an established digital technology business looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll continue writing production code while providing technical direction and mentoring a small team of engineers. You'll play a key role in shaping architecture, reviewing code, solving complex technical challenges and driving engineering best practices across modern web platforms.
Working closely with product, design and delivery teams, you'll help build scalable, high-quality digital products while remaining actively involved in day-to-day development.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical delivery of modern web applications and platforms. Develop production code across both frontend and backend technologies. Design and build scalable APIs and integrations. Drive architectural decisions and engineering best practices. Mentor and support a small team of Software Engineers. Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance. Collaborate with product, design and delivery teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Promote software quality through testing, CI/CD, security, performance and observability.

About You
You'll be an experienced Senior or Lead Software Engineer with strong commercial experience building modern web applications using TypeScript, React and Next.js .
You'll enjoy remaining hands-on whilst leading technical discussions, mentoring engineers and helping shape scalable software solutions. Experience across backend technologies such as Node.js or C#/.NET , cloud platforms and modern software delivery practices would be highly beneficial.
