Site Engineer - Nights Role Overview:
My industry leading tier 1 main contractor client is looking for a Site Engineer to work on a high-profile roof refurbishment project on a major station in Birmingham.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day engineering control, dimensional accuracy, and quality assurance during the deconstruction and replacement of secondary steelwork and fabric cladding. Working on the station roof over a live, busy rail interchange, you will ensure that the works are executed perfectly to design, on time, and to the highest safety standards.
Due to the nature of the work suitable candidates must be willing to work nights.
Candidate Responsibilities:
Establish, maintain, and check site control points on the roof structure. Carry out accurate setting-out, dimensional checks, and laser scanning surveys for the secondary steelwork and cladding brackets. Interpret engineering drawings, digital models, and specifications, resolving any design clashes or discrepancies early with the Section Engineer. Complete day-to-day Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring all check sheets, torque logs for steel bolts, and weld inspections are meticulously recorded. Raise and manage As-Built surveys and records to ensure seamless handover documentation for Network Rail. Identify and report any engineering non-conformances (NCRs) immediately to the management team. Assist the Section Engineer in monitoring specialist steel and facade subcontractors, ensuring they work strictly in accordance with approved Method Statements (RAMS). Conduct daily site diaries, material take-offs, and progress reporting.
Candidate Requirements:
3+ years of experience working as a Site Engineer for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor. Proficient with modern surveying equipment (Total Stations / Leica / Trimble) and CAD software for checking layouts. Prior experience working on structural steel installations, building refurbishments, or architectural facades. Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related construction discipline. Valid CSCS card.
