We are partnering with a highly successful, long established, and rapidly growing manufacturer, importer and wholesale retailer based on the outskirts of Manchester. Following significant expansion, technology has become a cornerstone of their UK and global operations.
With further growth planned, they are seeking a strategic yet hands-on Head of IT / IT Manager to join their leadership team. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the MD, offering accountability for the IT landscape and a seat at the table to influence wider business decisions.
The Role
As the Head of IT / IT Manager, you will take full ownership of the IT function. You will lead, mentor, and support a small internal team, whilst effectively managing relationships with external IT partners.
This role requires a blend of strategic vision and technical knowledge. You will be responsible for defining the future systems architecture and roadmap, whilst remaining close enough to the technology to ensure seamless daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Architecture: Analyse evolving business requirements to establish a robust IT systems strategy, architecture, and technology roadmap. Supplier & Partner Management: Negotiate with and manage third-party suppliers and partners across infrastructure and business applications. ERP & Systems Integration: Oversee the ERP landscape (ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O knowledge) and optimise / improve integrations between internal systems, WMS, and client platforms. Team Leadership: Develop, mentor, and upscale the internal IT team and partner network to ensure high capability and performance. Infrastructure & Operations: Ensure the efficient operation of company technologies, including servers, desktops, networks, telephony, mobile, websites, and warehouse technology. Procurement & Budgeting: Take full accountability for all IT procurement, software licensing, and budget management to agreed levels. Governance & Training: Establish appropriate system procedures, technical documentation, and end-user training frameworks.
What We Are Looking For:
Proven Experience: A track record as an IT Manager, Head of IT, or IT Director, ideally within an SME environment (wholesale, distribution, logistics, or supply chain experience would also be highly beneficial). ERP Knowledge: Experience with ERP systems and related supply chain technologies; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is highly desirable. Hands-on Capability: While strategic, you must possess the technical confidence to be "hands-on" with infrastructure, hardware, and applications if escalations require it. E-Commerce Exposure: Familiarity with digital/e-commerce platforms and integrations is a distinct advantage. Communication & Culture: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence at Board and client level. You will thrive in a collaborative, office-based culture (ideally working approx 4 days a week on-site, with flexibility offered).
