Senior Electrical Engineer, Power Systems
Location: West Sussex, hybrid working
Salary: £60,000 to £75,000, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, full time
An innovative clean technology business is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the development of advanced, grid-connected energy systems.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will take responsibility for electrical system design, power-system analysis and technical delivery across complex R&D and commercial projects. This position would suit someone with strong experience in industrial power systems, grid integration and AC/DC electrical architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Design AC and DC electrical distribution systems for grid-connected applications. Develop electrical architectures, single-line diagrams and high-level wiring schematics. Complete power-system studies, load calculations and electrical design assessments. Specify cables, protection devices, earthing systems and electrical components. Integrate electrical systems with PLCs, embedded controls and power converters. Ensure designs comply with relevant IEC, IEEE, ANSI and NFPA standards. Review and approve contractor and supplier designs. Identify and mitigate electrical risks throughout the project lifecycle. Support installation, grid connection, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
Skills and Experience
Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering. Strong electrical systems design and power distribution experience. Experience with grid-connected power generation, energy storage, industrial electrification or similar applications. Knowledge of protection systems, cable sizing and earthing design. Experience with ETAP, EPLAN, MATLAB or comparable engineering software. Ability to review schematics, calculations, bills of materials and component selections. Practical experience supporting installation and commissioning. MW-scale power-system experience would be advantageous.
