Plant & Equipment Maintenance Engineer / Fitter
Location: Hemel Hempstead
Salary : £40,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time (45 hours per week)
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Plant & Equipment Maintenance Engineer / Fitter to join our growing plant and haulage business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of our fleet of plant, machinery, vehicles and associated equipment.
We are looking for someone who is practical, mechanically minded and capable of working independently. The role will suit someone with strong experience working on construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar heavy equipment.
The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping our machinery safe, reliable and available for work, minimising downtime and identifying potential problems before they become major failures.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on plant and machinery. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults. Carry out repairs and replacement of components as required. Inspect machinery and identify worn, damaged or defective components. Maintain excavators, dumpers, loaders, rollers, telehandlers and other construction plant. Maintain trailers, attachments and associated equipment where required. Carry out hydraulic repairs, including hoses, fittings, cylinders and associated components. Carry out basic electrical fault finding and repairs. Maintain engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and running gear. Carry out planned maintenance in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations. Prepare machinery for statutory inspections and examinations. Keep accurate maintenance and repair records for all equipment. Liaise with parts suppliers and external specialist repairers when required. Respond to breakdowns and minimise machinery downtime. Carry out emergency repairs both at the company yard and, where necessary, on site. Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures. Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements to improve reliability. Report major defects, safety concerns and significant repair requirements to management. Assist with the inspection and preparation of newly purchased or hired-in machinery. Carry out other reasonable maintenance and mechanical duties required by the business.
Essential
Proven experience working on heavy plant, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar equipment. Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills. Good understanding of hydraulic systems. Ability to diagnose faults and work independently. Ability to read and understand basic technical and hydraulic diagrams. Full UK driving licence. Good understanding of health and safety requirements when working with heavy machinery.
