The Opportunity
An established engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a degree-qualified engineer who enjoys both technical design and project delivery. The role offers exposure to the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to manufacture, testing, installation and customer handover. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, production, quality and commercial functions while developing your project management skills. This position would suit an ambitious Mechanical Engineer looking to progress into a project-focused engineering career.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
Support engineering projects from initial handover through to completion. Coordinate activities across design, manufacturing, purchasing and quality teams. Monitor project schedules, milestones and deliverables. Assist with project planning, progress reporting and customer updates. Identify and communicate project risks, delays or technical issues. Maintain project documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle. Attend internal and customer meetings and follow up on agreed actions. Support cost, quality and delivery objectives across multiple projects.
Mechanical Design
Produce and modify 2D and 3D CAD drawings and engineering documentation. Develop practical engineering solutions to meet customer and business requirements. Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). Support design reviews, testing activities and problem-solving exercises. Liaise with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective. Assist with continuous improvement and product development activities. Ensure engineering documentation is accurate and controlled.
About YouEssential
Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience using 2D and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred). Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Strong organisational and planning skills. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. A proactive and solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges.
Desirable
Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment. Understanding of design for manufacture principles. Experience creating Bills of Materials (BOMs). Knowledge of project management principles. Experience using ERP systems or project planning software. Full UK driving licence.
