NXTGEN is recruiting a Financial Accountant for an established manufacturing business based in the North of the City. This Financial Accountant opportunity would provide an excellent first move from practice, while also appealing to technically strong industry candidates with experience across statutory reporting, financial controls and compliance.
Operating as part of a larger international group, the business offers an interesting reporting environment combining UK GAAP requirements with SOX controls and group reporting. You’ll join an experienced finance function and take ownership of several technically focused areas, working closely with both local stakeholders and the wider group.
The role
As the Financial Accountant, you’ll play a central role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. You’ll support the monthly and year-end close, ensure controls are consistently applied and provide technical accounting support across the finance function.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting Preparing statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP Ensuring compliance with SOX controls and maintaining appropriate evidence Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating discrepancies Supporting the year-end audit and responding to external auditor queries Maintaining accurate accounting records across fixed assets, inventory and other key balance sheet areas Reviewing journals, accruals and prepayments as part of the month-end close Supporting corporation tax, VAT and wider regulatory reporting Ensuring group accounting policies are applied consistently Identifying weaknesses within existing controls and recommending improvements Supporting changes to finance systems, reporting and accounting processes Working with operational finance colleagues to improve the accuracy of financial information
What are we looking for?
The successful Financial Accountant will have a strong technical accounting foundation, with knowledge of UK GAAP, statutory reporting and financial controls. Experience of SOX would be particularly valuable, although candidates with broader audit or internal controls experience will also be considered.
You could currently be working within accountancy practice and looking to make your first move into industry, or already operating within manufacturing or another complex commercial environment. Exposure to stock, fixed assets or group reporting would be beneficial but is not essential where you can demonstrate strong technical knowledge and an ability to learn.
