We're supporting a well-established engineering business that designs and manufactures heavy industrial equipment for customers across the UK and internationally. With a strong reputation for delivering innovative, high-quality engineering solutions, they're looking to strengthen their design team with an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving challenging engineering problems and seeing projects through the complete lifecycle.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative engineering environment where you'll have real ownership of projects, work closely with manufacturing and customers, and contribute to the development of industry-leading equipment.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll oversee mechanical design and development of bespoke machinery and engineered systems, leading design teams on projects from initial concept through detailed design, manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning.
You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, customers and suppliers to ensure designs are delivered on time, within specification and to the highest engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of bespoke capital equipment and engineered systems from concept through to commissioning. Produce detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings and GA drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Generate engineering calculations, technical specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Ensure designs comply with UKCA/CE regulations and current machinery safety standards. Carry out design reviews, DFMEA activities and technical risk assessments. Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities. Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, project management, suppliers and customers throughout project delivery. Provide technical input during proposal and tender stages, supporting the development of innovative engineering solutions. Drive standardisation, continuous improvement and best practice across the engineering function.
