Our client, operating in the defence and security sector with a specific focus on the maritime industry, is currently seeking a Site Safety Lead for a permanent position. This role is located at the British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre (BUTEC), a specialised facility focused on underwater testing and evaluation of various maritime systems. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a collaborative environment alongside some of the most brilliant minds in the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Work in partnership with the Head of Site and Site Compliance Lead to provide competent and professional health, safety and occasional environmental advice to operational and delivery teams Lead the practical implementation and delivery of HSE legislation, policy, strategy and objectives, applying high professional standards and building strong internal networks Engage effectively with internal and external health and safety contacts/stakeholders around the organisation and industry through site visits, remote collaboration, and participation in relevant site meetings Drive safety improvements and changes through training, mentoring, coaching and facilitating Provide advice and support to operational and delivery teams regarding HSE competence assessment, ensuring teams are qualified to meet respective HSE accountabilities and responsibilities Review and close out health and safety incident reports, improving data quality and supporting the investigation/management of environmental incidents as per their significance/impact
Job Requirements:
Skilled practical knowledge of Safety Management Systems with experience of ISO 45001 Strong knowledge of delivery, operations, and engineering environments Proven experience in leading and implementing change and improving safety outcomes within complex matrix organisations Highly motivated with excellent analytical, engagement, coaching, and influencing skills at all organisational levels Proactive, solution-oriented, and eager to drive change and improvements Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of prioritising while managing multiple priorities
Qualifications:
Level 3 or Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent Experience in managing Health & Safety in the workplace either as an HSE Practitioner or in a related role with key HSE responsibilities Chartered or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional body Recognised training in accident investigation including root cause analysis techniques
