Our client, a leading organisation within the defence, security and maritime sectors, is seeking a Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer for a permanent position based at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Gosport. The role involves delivering structural design and mechanical engineering projects for submarine propulsors and complex multi-material assemblies used in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and analysis of mechanical components, structures and assemblies from concept through to testing and production Provide senior engineering expertise and sound technical judgement when solving complex engineering problems Plan and deliver technical work packages, collaborating with project management and multidisciplinary engineering teams Support the development of complex metallic and composite structures for maritime and defence applications Work with safety engineering and other functions to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, company and project-specific requirements Develop engineering capability by mentoring colleagues and sharing specialist knowledge across technical communities Apply effective governance and act as a peer or independent reviewer for suitable engineering programmes Identify hazards and promote safe working practices across projects and technical activities
Job Requirements:
Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing principles Experience designing structures to recognised maritime, defence or civil engineering standards Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks Experience designing both metallic and composite structures Competence in performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex structures and systems Thorough understanding of safety regulations and applicable regulatory requirements BEng in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience Eligibility to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance
Working Arrangements:
Permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week Based at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Gosport Minimum average site attendance of three days per week Opportunity to work with advanced marine technology, including specialist facilities for testing and refining designs
