Lead Electrical Engineer Burton-on-Trent £65,000 - £72,000 DOE Are you an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in electrical design and team leadership? We are supporting an established engineering and manufacturing organisation in Burton-on-Trent that is looking to appoint a Lead Electrical Engineer to take technical ownership of its electrical engineering function. This is a senior position combining hands-on electrical engineering, technical leadership and people management, with responsibility for ensuring electrical designs are delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard. The Role As Lead Electrical Engineer, you will:
- Lead and coordinate electrical design activities across a range of industrial engineering projects.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of Electrical Engineers.
- Allocate workload, plan engineering resources and prioritise activities against project deadlines.
- Define electrical architectures, schematics and system-level design strategies.
- Review and approve electrical designs, calculations and technical documentation.
- Oversee the creation of wiring diagrams, control panel designs, cable schedules and power distribution layouts.
- Lead the selection and specification of electrical components including protection devices, contactors, relays, sensors and power electronics.
- Carry out and validate electrical calculations including load, fault current, cable sizing and protective device coordination.
- Ensure designs meet customer requirements and relevant safety and electrical standards.
- Lead technical design reviews, risk assessments and failure analysis activities.
- Support engineering projects from initial concept through prototype, production, testing and commissioning.
- Work closely with Mechanical, Controls, Manufacturing and Quality teams.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for electrical engineering issues.
- Drive standardisation, continuous improvement and engineering best practice across the department.
- Identify opportunities to introduce new technologies, tools and design methods.
The Lead Electrical Engineer We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience leading or managing an Electrical Engineering team - essential.
- A strong hands-on background in electrical design.
