Consultant Psychiatrist – Acute Inpatient Service
A modern, forward-thinking inpatient service is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established medical team providing care for adults with enduring mental health needs.
This is a 37.5-hour Consultant post within a 36-bed adult acute service , working alongside another full-time Consultant and two Associate Specialists. You’ll be supported by a full MDT including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and Social Work, with additional input from an Associate Specialist doctor.
Alongside delivering a high-quality clinical service, you will play an active role in shaping service development , working closely with senior leadership to support clinical strategy and ongoing improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Responsible Clinician for an adult inpatient ward
Lead clinical decision-making and manage complex cases
Formulate care plans and guide evidence-based treatment
Participate in MDT meetings, care reviews, and governance activities
Undertake risk assessments and ensure safe risk management
Liaise with external agencies and apply the Mental Health Act appropriately
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold service standards
Participate in a second-tier on-call rota (telephone advice)
Provide cross-cover when colleagues are absent
Requirements
MRCPsych or equivalent
CCT/CESR in General Adult Psychiatry (other subspecialties considered depending on experience)
OR senior-level experience with AC status and extensive inpatient background
Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status
Strong experience in acute inpatient or community mental health settings
Confident managing complex cases and leading MDT decision-making
