About the Role
A well-established accountancy practice in Stevenage is seeking an experienced and confident Accountant to join their growing team. This is a hands-on role supporting a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a busy practice environment and enjoy building strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their main point of contact Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, and VAT submissions Handle bookkeeping and management accounts as required Support clients with queries around accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) Assist with payroll processing when needed Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and HMRC regulations Contribute to process improvements and support the wider practice team
Skills & Experience Required
Previous experience working within an accountancy practice (essential) ACCA/ACA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements Confident preparing accounts from incomplete records Proficient with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred) Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines A proactive mindset and willingness to support colleagues
