We are looking for a highly organised, proactive and hands-on Laboratory & Facilities Assistant for a temporary assignment, working for a fantastic organisation, based on the Babraham Research Campus. This is a part-time role, working on-site 20 hours a week (08:00–12:00, Monday – Friday). The role will be temporary for an initial 6-month period, with the potential to extend.
As a Laboratory & Facilities Assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring laboratories and wider site have the supplies, equipment and operational support they need. This is a varied position suited to someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in keeping things organised and efficient, and is comfortable working across different areas of the business. You will work with colleagues across the organisation, managing stock and deliveries, supporting facilities activities, providing a welcoming front-of-house service and undertaking a range of practical operational tasks.
The successful Laboratory & Facilities Assistant will be organised, reliable and adaptable, with a practical approach and a strong sense of ownership. You will be confident managing a varied workload, using your initiative and responding positively when priorities change.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Stock
Order goods and supplies using the procurement system Receive, unpack and correctly put away deliveries Monitor stock levels and replenish stores and laboratories as required Maintain accurate records of goods received and stock
Logistics & Front of House
Manage the goods-in door and receive deliveries and shipments Provide a professional and welcoming front-of-house service to visitors Support visitor management processes Coordinate laundry collections and deliveries
Facilities & Laboratory Operations
Undertake waste disposal in accordance with site procedures Operate glass-washing and autoclave equipment following appropriate procedures Change gas cylinders as required and in line with safety procedures Carry out routine facilities tasks and assist with maintaining site equipment, including changing filters and defrosting freezers Support the general cleanliness, organisation and effective operation of stores, laboratories and facilities
Basic Onsite IT Support
Provide practical first-line support for straightforward hardware and communications requirements, such as replacing docks and keyboards and patching network cables Escalate more complex IT issues to the appropriate support team
