Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager
Location: East Anglia / South East – flexible hybrid working with regular site travel
Remuneration: Attractive salary + car allowance + discretionary bonus + benefits including healthcare
Our client is a well-established, successful and profitable privately owned main contractor working with major blue-chip customers across commercial construction, distribution / logistics, industrial, refurbishment and retail projects.
With significant secured work and a strong pipeline of further opportunities, they are looking to add an experienced commercial construction professional to their team, reporting directly to the Commercial Director.
The precise title can reflect the successful individual’s experience. Experienced Quantity Surveyors, Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers will all be considered, with capability and breadth of experience more important than current job title.
The business undertakes a varied portfolio of work, ranging from multiple smaller customer projects and refurbishments through to substantial new-build and redevelopment schemes.
The Role
You will take commercial responsibility for projects from initial stages through to completion, including:
Cost planning, budgeting and commercial reporting Procurement, tendering and subcontractor management CVRs, valuations and variations Contract administration, including JCT / Design & Build / NEC Value engineering and commercial risk management Client and stakeholder liaison Final accounts Working closely with operational and project delivery teams Supporting less experienced commercial colleagues where appropriate
Person Profile
The successful individual is likely to:
Have substantial Quantity Surveying / commercial management experience within construction Have a strong main contractor background Be capable of commercially managing projects with considerable autonomy Bring experience from commercial construction, industrial / logistics, distribution, refurbishment, retail or related building sectors Have strong procurement, cost control and contractual capability Be commercially astute and comfortable dealing directly with clients and stakeholders Be comfortable working flexibly between home, project sites and periodic team / office meetings Be willing to travel regularly to sites across East Anglia, London, the South East and elsewhere as projects require
Retail experience would be useful but is not essential . Broad construction experience, strong commercial capability and the ability to successfully deliver projects are more important.
