R&D Design & Development Engineer (Injection Moulding)
Newtown (On-site) £40,000 – £50,000 + benefits
Are you a hands-on Design Engineer who enjoys bringing products to life—from concept through to manufacturing?
We’re recruiting for an R&D Design & Development Engineer to join a growing, fast-paced engineering team delivering high-quality injection moulded products into global healthcare markets. This is a practical, design-focused role where you’ll be heavily involved in CAD, prototyping, and real-world product development—not just managing projects from a distance.
If you enjoy working on tangible products, solving engineering challenges, and collaborating across teams, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in a business scaling both its capabilities and international reach.
The Role
You’ll work within a small, collaborative R&D team, taking ownership of product design and development activities across the full lifecycle—from concept through to manufacturing handover.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys seeing their designs transition into production.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
Design and develop products using 3D CAD (SolidWorks / Solid Edge)
Produce detailed engineering drawings, models, and specifications
Take concepts through prototyping, testing, and into manufacture
Support rapid prototyping and 3D printing activities
Design and develop injection moulded components and assemblies
Drive innovation to improve usability and manufacturability
Injection Moulding & Manufacturing
Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles, specifically for injection moulding
Work with toolmakers and suppliers on mould design considerations
Support manufacturing teams with product optimisation and cost reduction
Testing & Compliance
Assist with Verification & Validation (V&V) activities
Ensure compliance with ISO13485 and regulated design processes
Collaboration & Improvement
Work cross-functionally with Quality, Operations, and Regulatory teams
Participate in FMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
Essential
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Medical Engineering or similar
Experience in product design & development in a manufacturing environment
