Interim Management Accountant
3–4 Month Interim Contract
£325–£400 per day
Clapham – Hybrid Working
Retail & E-Commerce
We're supporting a fast-growing retail and e-commerce business that is looking to appoint an experienced Management Accountant on an initial 3–4 month contract.
This is a slightly different Management Accountant role. There is BAU accounting to pick up across stock, month end and the balance sheet, but the real focus is on improving how things are done .
The biggest priority will be stock. There is currently a highly manual matching and reconciliation process taking up significant time each week. They want someone who can understand why the process works as it does today, identify the gaps and then help design and implement something considerably more efficient.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance Manager, you'll take ownership of several core accounting areas while also being given the freedom to challenge and improve existing processes.
You'll need to be comfortable with the detail, particularly around stock, purchase orders, landed costs and reconciliations , but equally capable of stepping back, understanding the end-to-end process and coming up with practical improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Own the stock accounting process, including high-volume supplier invoice and PO matching, stock journals, landed costs and in-transit stock Review and improve the end-to-end stock process , reducing manual work and strengthening reconciliations, controls and month-end accuracy Take ownership of key month-end areas including fixed assets, deferred income, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations Review and improve AR and debt recovery processes , including ageing, escalation procedures and historic balances Build regular reconciliations for third-party/channel partners, ensuring balances, commissions and settlements are accurately matched Support wider month-end accounting and provide hands-on finance support where required Work with the wider Finance and operational teams to understand process issues and implement practical improvements
What We're Looking For
Experienced Management Accountant, Financial Accountant or similar , ideally qualified or qualified by experience Strong experience working with stock accounting, inventory and purchase order processes Previous experience within retail, e-commerce, FMCG or another stock-led environment Comfortable reviewing existing processes and independently identifying what good should look like Strong month-end and balance sheet accounting experience, with good knowledge of reconciliations and financial controls Microsoft Business Central experience would be highly advantageous Hands-on, proactive and comfortable balancing BAU accounting with genuine process improvement Available immediately or at short notice
