Senior Quantity Surveyor (or Commercial Manager)
Location: London / South East – flexible hybrid working with regular site travel
Remuneration: Attractive salary + car allowance + discretionary bonus + benefits including healthcare
Our client is a well-established, highly regarded, successful and profitable privately owned main contractor working with major blue-chip customers across commercial construction, distribution / logistics, industrial, refurbishment and retail projects.
With significant secured work and a strong pipeline of further opportunities, they are now seeking to strengthen their commercial team with an experienced Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor, reporting directly to the Commercial Director.
The precise title can reflect the successful individual’s experience. We are particularly interested in commercially strong construction professionals capable of taking autonomous responsibility for multiple projects or workstreams while remaining actively involved in their commercial delivery.
Current and prospective work spans a broad range of project types and values, from multiple smaller customer projects and refurbishments through to substantial new-build and redevelopment schemes.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
Commercial ownership and oversight of construction projects Cost planning, budgeting, CVRs and commercial reporting Procurement, tendering and subcontractor management Valuations, variations and final accounts Contract administration, including JCT / Design & Build / NEC Value engineering and commercial risk management Developing strong commercial relationships with clients and stakeholders Working closely with operational and project delivery teams Supporting and mentoring less experienced commercial colleagues Contributing to the continued development of the commercial function as the business grows
Person Profile
The successful individual is likely to:
Have substantial commercial management / Quantity Surveying experience within construction Have a strong main contractor background Be capable of taking autonomous commercial responsibility for projects and workstreams Remain sufficiently hands-on to take direct commercial ownership of projects rather than operating solely in a team-management capacity Bring experience from commercial construction, industrial / logistics, distribution, refurbishment, retail or related sectors Have strong procurement, cost control and contractual capability Be commercially astute and credible when dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders Be comfortable supporting and mentoring junior commercial colleagues Work effectively across home, project sites and periodic team / office meetings Be willing to travel regularly to sites across London, the South East and elsewhere as projects require
