Mechanical Design Engineer Burton-on-Trent £42,000 - £48,000 DOE Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks and sheet metal design experience? We are supporting an established engineering and manufacturing business in Burton-on-Trent that is looking to strengthen its engineering team with an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a hands-on design role where you will be responsible for developing mechanical designs for fabricated equipment, enclosures, frames and associated assemblies, taking projects from initial concept through to manufacture. The Role As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Design sheet metal components, fabricated assemblies, frames, enclosures and structural components.
- Produce designs with consideration for manufacturability, assembly, performance and cost.
- Work with weldments, fabricated components and a range of materials including steel and aluminium.
- Carry out basic engineering calculations relating to areas such as structural loading, airflow and component sizing.
- Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs) and engineering documentation.
- Work closely with Electrical Engineering and Production teams to ensure effective integration of components and assemblies.
- Support prototype builds, testing and design validation.
- Assist Production with technical and manufacturing queries.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing designs, reduce costs and improve manufacturability.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and design files within PDM systems.
The Mechanical Design Engineer: We are looking for someone with:
- Strong SolidWorks experience - essential.
- Experience designing sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies - essential.
- Good understanding of weldments and fabrication/manufacturing processes.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.
- An understanding of materials such as steel and aluminium.
- Experience within an industrial, manufacturing, machinery, equipment or enclosure design environment.
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Ideally 3+ years' mechanical design experience.
This would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys being close to the manufacturing process and seeing their designs progress from concept through to physical production.
