As part of this growth journey, they are seeking a talented Warehouse Design professional to drive the development of innovative, automation-led warehouse solutions. Job Title: Solutions Design Engineer Location: East Midlands (Hybrid) Salary: £50,000 - £70,000
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop warehouse layouts, workflows, and material handling solutions that maximise operational efficiency, capacity, and scalability. Work alongside commercial and sales teams to support customer engagements, bid submissions, tender responses, and solution presentations. Conduct customer site assessments to understand operational challenges and translate requirements into practical, cost-effective warehouse solutions. Create layout drawings, process maps, capacity analyses, and operational models to underpin solution development. Assess and recommend suitable automation technologies, including robotics, ASRS, conveyors, sortation systems, and AMRs, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and return-on-investment objectives. Support projects throughout the full solution lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to implementation and operational handover. Develop cost models, business cases, and financial justifications to demonstrate commercial viability and value. Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project delivery teams to ensure seamless execution and successful project outcomes. Keep abreast of emerging technologies, market developments, and best practices within warehouse automation and logistics. Proactively identify project risks, limitations, and dependencies during the design phase to ensure robust and deliverable solutions.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in solutions design within logistics, warehousing, supply chain, or automated material handling environments. Strong understanding of warehouse design principles, process optimisation, and material flow analysis. Experience working with warehouse automation technologies such as robotics, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and sortation solutions. Ability to work effectively with commercial teams, supporting customer bids, tenders, and solution development activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including experience developing cost-benefit analyses and ROI models. Proficiency in design and modelling software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar tools. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both internal teams and external clients. Previous exposure to tender and bid management processes would be advantageous.
