Electrical Design Engineer
Our client, a specialist organisation within the distribution and transmission sector, is seeking a Design Engineer - LV-33kV to support the design and delivery of multi-utility networks. The role will focus primarily on electricity distribution systems, with additional involvement in gas and water infrastructure, covering the full design lifecycle from feasibility and planning through to approvals and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and review detailed LV and HV electrical network designs, including 11kV to 33kV systems Complete feasibility studies, load assessments and network planning activities Produce accurate electrical schematics, layouts and design documentation using AutoCAD and industry-standard software Integrate gas and water utilities into multi-utility network designs where required Ensure designs comply with G81 standards, UK utility regulations and relevant client requirements Manage design approvals with local authorities, Distribution Network Operators and Independent Distribution Network Operators Work collaboratively with clients, contractors and internal teams to achieve project objectives Provide technical guidance, complete risk assessments and support innovative, sustainable and cost-effective design solutions
Job Requirements:
Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline Proven experience in LV and HV network design within an ICP, IDNO or DNO environment Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, electrical design principles and UK utility regulations Proficiency in AutoCAD, Windebut or similar electrical design software Understanding of G81 standards and the design approval process Experience in multi-utility design, including gas and water systems, would be advantageous Knowledge of earthing software such as CDEGS would be beneficial Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational and administrative skills

Professional, confident and calm when managing technical challenges Customer-focused approach with clear and engaging communication skills Ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders Strong attention to detail, with a focus on delivering accurate work on time Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook Commitment to continuous learning, professional development and maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge Chartered Engineer status or progress towards CEng accreditation would be advantageous
