Spectrum IT Recruitment is working with an innovative technology business at the forefront of 5G and wireless communications , who are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join their growing software team in Southampton.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Software Engineer with strong C/C++ skills who enjoys working close to the hardware and solving challenging performance and optimisation problems.
The Role
You'll be responsible for developing, integrating and optimising the infrastructure software underpinning 5G NR Physical Layer (PHY) systems , with a particular focus on delivering real-time performance across embedded platforms.
You'll work closely with software, hardware, architecture and system-test teams, contributing to the development of high-performance 5G technology.
Key Responsibilities
Develop software used to run and test 5G NR PHY algorithms Develop and optimise platform-specific code for embedded systems Apply SIMD, multi-threading and hardware acceleration techniques Integrate PHY algorithms with ARM-based platforms and boards Improve and maintain CI testing across the platform Support interoperability testing with customers, vendors and operators Work closely with hardware, system architecture and system-test teams Contribute to technical reviews and customer-facing activities
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Strong C or C++ development experience Experience with a scripting language such as Python, Groovy or Bash Strong software engineering fundamentals and an interest in performance optimisation
Desirable:
Experience developing for real-time embedded systems and Linux Knowledge of SIMD, FPGA or DSP-based hardware acceleration Understanding of signal processing and optimisation techniques Experience with FPGA toolchains, particularly Xilinx Vivado Exposure to O-RAN architecture and fronthaul protocols such as eCPRI Experience working with ARM-based platforms
