Systems Integration Architect
x3 days p/w in Reading 6-month initial contract SC to start - UKEO programme Rates open, outside IR35
Our client, a small engineering consultancy in the defence and security sector, is seeking a Systems Integration Architect on a contract basis to join their team in Reading. This role involves hybrid working and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to large-scale digital transformation programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead enterprise integration and architecture assessments across complex programmes. Develop and assess target-state architectures aligned to organisational and programme objectives. Evaluate current systems, technology, integration and data architectures. Identify architecture gaps, dependencies, interoperability challenges and opportunities for improvement. Provide expert guidance across Enterprise Architecture, Digital Engineering, Systems Engineering and MBSE. Assess how modelling, simulation, synthetic environments and Test & Evaluation capabilities integrate within wider enterprise ecosystems. Support the development of enterprise integration strategies, roadmaps and implementation plans. Engage with government, defence organisations, suppliers and multinational stakeholders. Provide technical leadership during governance reviews, workshops and strategic decision-making activities. Produce high-quality reports, recommendations and executive-level briefings.
Job Requirements: Essential Experience:
Strong experience in Enterprise Architecture, Integration Architecture or Digital Transformation leadership roles. Deep understanding of Digital Engineering, Digital Thread and Digital Twin concepts. Experience applying Systems Engineering and MBSE principles within complex engineering environments. Ability to assess enterprise, systems, integration and data architectures. Experience identifying interoperability challenges and developing practical solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical information. Experience engaging with senior stakeholders across large-scale programmes. Ability to translate technical findings into clear strategic recommendations and business outcomes. Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience:
Experience within Defence, Aerospace, Government or highly regulated industries. Knowledge of GCAP, combat air programmes or major defence capability programmes. Familiarity with TOGAF, MODAF, UAF, ArchiMate, SysML or MBSE frameworks. Understanding of Modelling & Simulation, synthetic environments, Digital Twin or mission engineering concepts. Experience producing architecture assessments, strategic roadmaps and technical assurance reviews. Relevant certifications in Enterprise Architecture, Systems Engineering or Digital Transformation disciplines.
