Science Technician - Secondary School

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Science Technician to join a successful Secondary School in Higher Blackley, Manchester , on an immediate-start basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Science Technician with a genuine background in school or education settings to become an integral part of a busy Science Department. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to ensure practical lessons are fully prepared, safe and well organised, supporting pupils across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The Role
As a Science Technician, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of practical Science lessons across the school. Your responsibilities will include preparing equipment and materials for practical lessons, maintaining laboratory resources and ensuring that laboratories are clean, organised and ready for use.
You will also be responsible for the safe storage, handling and preparation of chemicals and other scientific materials, whilst ensuring that appropriate health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
The successful candidate will be confident working independently, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable supporting a busy secondary-school Science Department.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, specimens and other resources for practical Science lessons. Support teachers with the smooth delivery of practical activities across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Set up and clear away practical experiments and demonstrations. Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms, equipment and Science resources to a high standard. Ensure chemicals and other materials are stored, labelled and handled safely. Follow and maintain appropriate COSHH and health and safety procedures . Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies. Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of scientific equipment. Ensure laboratories are clean, safe and appropriately prepared before and after practical sessions. Support the Science Department with general technical and practical duties. Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other members of the school's support team. Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, chemicals, stock and health and safety where required.
